Xiaomi unveiled the Redmi Note 2. Recognized for its superb capabilities and inexpensive price, the company easily proved itself as as dark horse that can go neck-to-neck with other more established brands.

The new phone maker has been doing quite well in promoting itself as a major player in the smart phone industry. In China, the company has been able to sell about 800,000 units in just 12 hours.

The Redmi Note 2 was launched with the Redmi Note 2 Prime. It features a 5.5-inch 1080p full-HD screen, a 2GHz MediaTek Helios X1 processor, 2GB RAM and 16GB of storage for hardcore users.

The phone is equipped with a 13-megapixel camera on the back, 5-megapixel camera in front, a 3,060mAh battery and a dual-SIM slot. The 4G LTE runs on Android Lollipop on its Mi UI 7.

Xiaomi had a difficult time expanding in Asia. December last year, the 3G version of the Redmi Note was banned in India. However, the company had remained mum about the real reason behind such move.

Xiaomi has been a big hit in India. Recently, it announced its intentions to start an assembly line for its smartphones in India. The company’s facility in Vizag will be in collaboration with Foxconn.

The move was said to be part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Make in India” initiative to provide more jobs for locals and to make the country a powerhouse in electronic gadget manufacturing.
